World #1 Dominates Shanghai Rolex Masters

October 22, 2015

Djokovic, who swept through the week without dropping a set, turned back 16th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-2, 6-4 in 78-minutes to win his ninth title of the season. Clearly, China brings good fortune to Djokovic as he has won 38 of his last 39 matches played in the country. His only loss in that time period was falling to eventual champion Roger Federer in the Shanghai Rolex Masters semifinal last year.

Djokovic arrived in Shanghai having won his sixth career Beijing title and is looking as strong at the end of the season as he did all year long. This is the second time in his career that he’s won five ATP Masters 1000 titles in a season, having also done so in 2011. Earlier in the year he won ATP Masters 1000 titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo and Rome.

“I think in terms of the two tournaments back-to-back weeks, this has been the best two weeks of my life, my career,” said Djokovic, after winning in Shanghai. “I think I’ve played the best tennis ever in these two weeks in terms of back-to-back. Honestly, that’s how I felt. Energy-wise, I was great. I didn’t get tired. I always had plenty of intensity, concentration, high performance level from the first match in Beijing to today’s match.”
